What a great time we had joining some of our corporate partners at several volunteering events last month. Altogether, nearly 200 of their employees donated their time and enthusiasm to assemble hygiene kits and sort and box non-perishable food to be distributed to people and families facing food and housing insecurity across Los Angeles.

Supporting our most vulnerable neighbors and making a lasting impact in our communities can only happen when compassionate and generous individuals and organizations unite for a good cause. That is what happened throughout June at those volunteer events held in partnership with the Los Angeles County Federation of Labor (AFL-CIO), and other community partners.

As every year for the past two decades, we joined the Labor Community Services for the National Association of Letter Carrier’s Stamp Out Hunger campaign. Over 100 employees from SoCalGas, PNC Bank, AAA Auto Club, and NASA-Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), volunteered throughout the month to help sort and box 1.8 million pounds in food donations. SoCalGas also donated $25,000 to Labor Community Services.

“SoCal Gas is so proud of our partnership with the United Way, whether it’s the walk to end homelessness or events like this Stamp Out Hunger, it is an incredible partnership that allows SoCal Gas to be able to give to the community, and that is something so true to our DNA,” said SoCalGas President Maryam Brown.

Our friends at AON and Deloitte altogether assembled hundreds of hygiene kits for Family Housing Services and Central City Neighborhood Partners to be distributed to hundreds of our unhoused neighbors and low-income families in LA County.

“The reason we do this, number one is because it’s incredibly important as citizens of LA to give back to the community, but number two it brings a tremendous amount of pride and respect from the colleagues and reminds them that we are just member of a large organization, serving our clients, we are also here to support the community and that’s my favorite part of the United Way. It is a reminder that as citizens we need to give back and help our friends, families, and neighbors,” said Mark Hickman, Managing Director at AON’s Pacific Southwest offices.

We are so thankful to our partners and their employees for their volunteer work and generosity!
